# Accounts Receivable overview

> Customers, invoices, incoming payments, and collections in adorabl.

**Accounts Receivable** is adorabl's billing and cash collection lane — from customer master data through invoicing, payment application, and dunning. Everything scopes to your active **organization** and posts to the Books subledger when documents are confirmed or posted.

## What Accounts Receivable covers

| Area | Primary screens | Guide |
| - | - | - |
| **Customers** | Accounts Receivable → Customers | [Customers](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/customers.md) |
| **Invoices & adjustments** | Accounts Receivable → Invoices & Adjustments | [Invoices & adjustments](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/invoices-and-adjustments.md) |
| **Incoming payments** | Accounts Receivable → Incoming Payments | [Incoming payments](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/incoming-payments.md) |
| **Collections & dunning** | Invoices + Dunning setup | [Collections & dunning](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/collections-and-dunning.md) |

Setup checklists live under **Accounts Receivable setup** (gear icon) in the app at `/setup/receivables`. See [Receivables setup](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/setup/receivables-setup.md) and [Dunning rules](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/setup/dunning-rules.md).

## End-to-end revenue flow

```text theme={null}
Customer → Sales order (Commerce) → Invoice → Payment → Bank reconciliation
```

Not every sale follows every step — wholesale may skip the order and start at invoice; B2C may invoice from ship automatically.

## Prerequisites for go-live

**1. Books foundation**

Finish [Finance setup](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/finance-setup.md), [System accounts](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/system-accounts.md), and [Fiscal calendar](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/fiscal-calendar.md).

**2. Receivables setup**

Walk the [Receivables setup](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/setup/receivables-setup.md) checklist — customers, terms, dunning, and payment defaults.

**3. Master data**

Add [Customers](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/customers.md) and confirm [Payment methods](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/payment-methods.md) if you accept cards or ACH.

## Document types at a glance

| Document | Created from | Posts to GL when |
| - | - | - |
| Invoice | Manual, order, or recurring | **Save & post** (revenue + AR) |
| Incoming payment | AR → Incoming Payments | **Save & post** (cash + AR relief) |
| Credit / debit memo | Invoices → Adjustments | Post + apply |

Orders, labels, and fulfillment live under [Commerce](https://www.adorabl.info/commerce/overview.md).

## Key metrics on the dashboard

| KPI / section | What it tells you |
| - | - |
| **Open AR** | Total receivables, overdue count, dunning-active flag |
| **30-day forecast** | Predicted AR inflows from open invoices |

See [Dashboard overview](https://www.adorabl.info/getting-started/dashboard.md) for the full KPI list.

## Example: Trail Ridge Outfitters

1. **Customers** — Aspen Sports Co. (Net 30) plus a Shopify guest pool customer
2. **Invoice INV-1055** — posted after ship for \$186.00
3. **Payment PMT-2210** — Shopify settlement batch applied; unapplied \$0
4. **Collections** — dunning cadence at 3 / 14 / 30 days for wholesale past-due only

## Troubleshooting

> **Where do I start?**
>
> New organizations: complete [Receivables setup](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/setup/receivables-setup.md), add a [customer](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/customers.md), post a test [invoice](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/invoices-and-adjustments.md), and record an [incoming payment](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/incoming-payments.md).

> **Open AR on dashboard does not match my spreadsheet**
>
> Dashboard Open AR sums live posted invoice balances for the active org. Draft invoices are excluded. Drill into Invoices & Adjustments and filter status **Open** and **Partial** to reconcile.

> **Need help with marketplace payouts**
>
> Channel tags on orders are separate from cash deposits. After bank feed import, use [Settlement reconciliation](https://www.adorabl.info/books/settlement-reconciliation.md) then [Incoming payments](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/incoming-payments.md).
