2. Click **Finance**, or open **Finance** in the sidebar and click the **setup** gear icon.

## Sections

### General ledger

| Item | Guide |
| - | - |
| **Default GL Accounts** | [Default GL accounts](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/system-accounts.md) — AP, AR, GRNI, deferred revenue, prepaid expense, and [item GL accounts](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/system-accounts.md#item-gl-accounts) |
| **Segments & Dimensions** | [Segments and dimensions](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/chart-of-accounts-setup.md) — natural account, other segments, dimension values, and the restriction matrix |
| **Account Types & Subtypes** | [Account types and subtypes](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/account-types.md) — the type and subtype statements use. The income type is **Income** |
| **Fiscal calendar (Jan–Dec)** | [Financial calendar](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/fiscal-calendar.md) — one year per ledger, posting periods, and the close cutoff |

Month-end work itself is [Period close](https://www.adorabl.info/books/period-close.md), under **Finance** in the sidebar. The financial calendar is where you set the year and the cutoff. Close, lock, reopen, and unlock happen on Period close.

### Banks and cash

| Item | Guide |
| - | - |
| **Connect bank accounts** | [Connect bank accounts](https://www.adorabl.info/banking/connect-bank-accounts.md) — link accounts for reconciliation and cash balances |

### AR and AP automation

| Item | Guide |
| - | - |
| **Terms codes** | Payment terms for bills and invoices. A new organization starts with **Due on receipt**, **Net 15 days**, **Net 30 days**, **Net 45 days**, **Net 60 days**, and **Cash on delivery**. Codes with a discount percent and discount days drive **Due date** and **Cash discount date** on bills and invoices automatically |
| **Payment methods** | [Payment methods](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/payment-methods.md) — enable ACH, wire, card, cash, and check; link each method to eligible cash GL accounts |
| **Dunning / collections cadence** | [Dunning rules](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/setup/dunning-rules.md) |
| **Invoice templates & branding** | [Branding](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/branding.md) — logo, colors, and the wording on an invoice email and PDF |

### Tax and close

| Item | Action |
| - | - |
| **Sales tax engine** | Confirm tax calculation rules for your nexus jurisdictions |
| **Nexus jurisdictions** | Verify states and countries where you collect tax |
| **Auto-close cutoff time** | Default is 23:59 UTC — controls when the daily close runs |

## Recommended order for a new organization

**1. Default GL accounts**

Map control accounts first — everything else posts against these, including item inventory, cost of goods sold, and revenue. See [Default GL accounts](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/system-accounts.md).

**2. Segments, subtypes, and the financial calendar**

Add natural-account values, set each account's type and subtype, and add a fiscal year on the ledger you post to. See [Segments and dimensions](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/chart-of-accounts-setup.md), [Account types](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/account-types.md), and [Financial calendar](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/fiscal-calendar.md).

**3. Connect banks**

Link bank accounts for cash and reconciliation.

**4. Terms and dunning**

Add payment terms and collections rules.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Finance setup items with live configuration screens show a green check when complete. Items still marked **to do** on the checklist are not yet available — do not plan workflows around them until the status changes.
