# Connect a shipping account

> Connect the EasyPost account your organization uses to buy shipping labels.

Connect your organization's EasyPost account before you buy labels in adorabl. Store a test key and a production key. Shipping uses whichever mode is active. You manage the account and its payment method directly in EasyPost.

## Before you connect

* Create an EasyPost account for your organization.
* Add an active payment method in EasyPost before you buy real postage.
* Copy the API key for the mode you want to use. Test keys and production keys are saved separately.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Treat both API keys like passwords. Paste them only into the **EasyPost account** page in adorabl. Do not share them in email, chat, or screenshots.

## Connect the account

**1. Open shipping account setup**

1. Open **Settings**.
2. Select **Inventory**.
3. Click **EasyPost account**.

**2. Save each key**

Paste a test key into **Test API key** and click **Save test key**. Paste a production key into **Production API key** and click **Save production key**.

adorabl validates a key before saving it. The key is hidden after it is saved. A saved key shows **Connected**, **Missing**, or **Invalid**.

**3. Choose the active mode**

**Active mode** shows **Test** or **Production**.

* **Test** — postage purchases are not real.
* **Production** — postage purchases spend real money.

Click **Switch to Test** or **Switch to Production**. Switching to production asks you to confirm. The target key has to show **Connected** before that mode can buy labels.

**4. Check account health**

Under **Account health**, confirm the payment method and the shipment webhook. Use **Register webhook** or **Check registration** when the webhook still needs to be set.

To replace a key, paste a new one in that field and save it again.

## Buy labels

After a key is connected and a mode is active, open a sales order or fulfillment and use the **Shipping** panel to compare rates and buy a label. Postage is charged through the EasyPost account for the active mode.

See [Shipping labels](https://www.adorabl.info/commerce/shipping-labels.md) for the complete workflow.

## Troubleshooting

> **The key shows Invalid**
>
> Copy a current key from EasyPost and save it again. Test keys and production keys use different prefixes; the field hint on the page names the prefix it expects.

> **Switch to Production stays unavailable**
>
> **Production API key** has to show **Connected** first. Save a production key, then switch.

> **A label purchase was not real postage**
>
> **Active mode** is **Test**. Switch to **Production** when you are ready to buy a live label.

> **No active payment method was found**
>
> Add or update the payment method in your EasyPost account, then reload the setup page.

> **Buying a label returns a payment error**
>
> Confirm the connected EasyPost account has an active payment method and can cover the postage charge. Then retry the purchase from the **Shipping** panel.

> **No rates are returned**
>
> Confirm the warehouse ship-from address is complete and the customer has a ship-to address. See [Sales orders & fulfillment](https://www.adorabl.info/commerce/sales-orders-and-fulfillment.md).
