# Operations setup

> Configure inventory and operations settings.

adorabl splits product operations setup into two areas — **Inventory setup** and **Purchasing setup** — plus Commerce setup for channel and fulfillment configuration. Use the checklists under **Settings** to track progress.

## Open setup

**1. Go to the Settings hub**

1. Open **Settings** from **Data & Admin**.
2. Choose **Inventory**, **Purchasing**, or **Commerce** under Areas — or use the setup gear on the matching sidebar group.

## Inventory setup

**Inventory setup** (`/setup/inventory`) covers where inventory lives and how items are categorized.

| Item | Action |
| - | - |
| **Warehouses** | Add owned DCs, 3PLs, and fulfillment locations. See [Warehouses](https://www.adorabl.info/products/warehouses.md). |
| **Item categories** | Group items for reporting and defaults. Category **Posting defaults** can override inventory, COGS, and revenue. |
| **Units of measure** | Define shared units and per-item conversions. See [Units of measure](https://www.adorabl.info/products/setup/units-of-measure.md). |
| **Adjustment reasons** | Map each inventory adjustment reason to the account it posts against. See [Adjustment reasons](https://www.adorabl.info/products/setup/adjustment-reasons.md). |
| **Bin locations** | Configure bin structure per warehouse when bin tracking is enabled. |
| **EasyPost account** | Save a test key and a production key, and choose the active mode. See [Connect a shipping account](https://www.adorabl.info/commerce/shipping-account.md). |

## Purchasing setup

**Purchasing setup** (`/setup/purchasing`) covers landed cost and purchase-order controls.

| **Landed cost components** | Set the allocation basis for Freight, Duty, Handling, Insurance, and Other, or add your own. See [Landed cost components](https://www.adorabl.info/purchasing/setup/landed-cost-components.md). |

## Commerce setup (fulfillment)

**Commerce setup** (`/setup/commerce`) configures how orders flow through fulfillment:

| Item | Action |
| - | - |
| **Channel fulfillment defaults** | Set the default fulfillment method and warehouse per channel. See [Sales channels](https://www.adorabl.info/commerce/sales-channels.md). |
| **Shopify** and **Shopify field mappings** | Connect a Shopify site, resolve sync decisions, and manage confirmed mappings. See [Connect Shopify](https://www.adorabl.info/commerce/shopify.md). |
| **Boxes** | Define box sizes used in the pack workspace. |
| **Packing scales** | Connect scales for weight capture during packing. |
| **Workflow summary** | Review the order → ship → invoice guide after channel defaults are set. |

Connect the organization's EasyPost account under **Inventory setup**. Rate shopping and label purchases happen from the fulfillment's **Shipping** panel at the pack stage.

### Shipping prerequisites

| Item | Action |
| - | - |
| **Warehouse ship-from** | Put a complete street address on the warehouse you ship from. See [Warehouses](https://www.adorabl.info/products/warehouses.md). |
| **Customer ship-to** | Flag a default ship-to on the customer. See [Customers](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-receivable/customers.md). |
| **Shipping account** | Connect EasyPost and confirm its payment status before buying postage. See [Connect a shipping account](https://www.adorabl.info/commerce/shipping-account.md). |

## Recommended order

**1. Warehouses**

Define locations before receiving stock.

**2. Item GL accounts**

Map inventory, COGS, and revenue accounts on **Settings → Finance → Default GL Accounts**. See [Item GL accounts](https://www.adorabl.info/books/setup/system-accounts.md#item-gl-accounts).

**3. Units of measure**

Configure shared units before multi-UOM items and PO lines.

**4. Adjustment reasons**

Map shrink and found-stock reasons to accounts before the first adjustment or [inventory count](https://www.adorabl.info/products/inventory-counts.md) posts. See [Adjustment reasons](https://www.adorabl.info/products/setup/adjustment-reasons.md).

**5. Landed cost components**

Review allocation bases and map the landed cost system accounts before the first freight or duty allocation. See [Landed cost components](https://www.adorabl.info/purchasing/setup/landed-cost-components.md).

**6. Channel and box defaults**

Set Commerce channel defaults and packaging boxes before high-volume pick/pack/ship.

**7. Ship-from addresses**

Complete warehouse addresses so [shipping labels](https://www.adorabl.info/commerce/shipping-labels.md) can quote postage.
