Warehouses define where Trail Ridge Outfitters holds inventory — owned distribution centers, 3PL fulfillment nodes, and retail stores. Every receive, adjust, shipment, and on-hand balance is scoped to a warehouse. ## Prerequisites * Select the correct **organization** in the sidebar switcher. * Create at least one active warehouse before receiving stock or viewing [Stock on hand](https://www.adorabl.info/products/stock-on-hand.md). ## Open Warehouses **1. Navigate** 1. In the sidebar, open **Inventory**. 2. Click **Warehouses**. You can also reach warehouse setup from **Settings → Operations**. See [Operations setup](https://www.adorabl.info/products/setup/operations-setup.md). ## Location list | Column | Meaning | | - | - | | **Warehouse** | Display name — click to edit inline | | **Code** | Short code for reports and integrations (optional) | | **Type** | **Warehouse**, **3PL**, **Store**, or **Marketplace** | | **Defaults** | **Receiving** and/or **Shipping** badges when this location is the org default | | **Status** | **Active** or **Inactive** | Search filters by name or code. ## Location types | Type | When Trail Ridge uses it | | - | - | | **Warehouse** | Owned DC — e.g., **Denver DC** | | **3PL** | Third-party fulfillment — e.g., **Shopify 3PL (Reno)** | | **Store** | Retail backroom stock — e.g., **Flagship — Boulder**. Shopify POS orders default to a Store warehouse for customer pickup. | | **Marketplace** | Stock held by a marketplace on your behalf — e.g., **AMZ-FBA**. adorabl seeds this warehouse as a quantity mirror with bins off. Amazon FBA orders relieve inventory and post COGS here when the marketplace confirms fulfillment. | All types participate in on-hand tracking the same way. Type also sets the default warehouse for channels that have none configured — see [Sales channels](https://www.adorabl.info/commerce/sales-channels.md). ## Create or edit a warehouse Click a row or **New warehouse** to expand the editor: | Field | Detail | | - | - | | **Name** | Required — shown on stock screens and documents | | **Code** | Optional short identifier (for example, `DEN`, `RNO-3PL`) | | **Type** | Warehouse, 3PL, Store, or Marketplace | | **Address** | Structured address with verification support. Required in full on any warehouse that ships orders — rating and labels fail closed when the assigned warehouse address is incomplete. | | **Contact** | Name, email, phone for the location | | **Default receiving** | Pre-select this warehouse on **Receive stock** dialogs | | **Default shipping** | Default ship-from on outbound fulfillment and carrier labels (when the location has a complete address) | | **Bin locations** | Toggle on to track storage bins inside this warehouse. See [Bin locations](https://www.adorabl.info/products/bin-locations.md). | | **Active** | Inactive locations are hidden from new transactions | Click **Create warehouse** or **Save changes** when done. ## Defaults Two defaults can be set per organization — one **Receiving**, one **Shipping**: | Default | Effect | | - | - | | **Receiving** | Opens first in **Receive stock** on [Stock on hand](https://www.adorabl.info/products/stock-on-hand.md) and item records | | **Shipping** | Preferred fulfillment location for outbound orders and the first-choice **ship-from** for [shipping labels](https://www.adorabl.info/commerce/shipping-labels.md) | Rules: * Only **one** active location can be the receiving default. * Only **one** active location can be the shipping default. * A location can hold both badges (Trail Ridge sets **Denver DC** as receiving default and **Shopify 3PL** as shipping default). * You cannot deactivate the **only active location** in the organization. * You cannot delete a location that is still the receiving or shipping default — assign defaults elsewhere first. > [!TIP] > > Set defaults before your first bulk receive. Operators should not have to pick a warehouse on every receipt. ## Example: Trail Ridge Outfitters | Warehouse | Code | Type | Defaults | | - | - | - | - | | **Denver DC** | `DEN` | Warehouse | Receiving | | **Shopify 3PL (Reno)** | `RNO-3PL` | 3PL | Shipping | | **Flagship — Boulder** | `BOUL-STORE` | Store | — | | **AMZ-FBA** | `AMZ-FBA` | Marketplace | — | Inbound PO receipts default to **Denver DC**. Shopify Web orders ship from **Reno 3PL**. Shopify POS pickups relieve the Boulder store. Amazon FBA orders relieve **AMZ-FBA** when Amazon confirms shipment. Clear the existing default or move it to another location first. > **Cannot deactivate or delete a location** > > You cannot deactivate the only active warehouse. You cannot delete a location that is still a receiving or shipping default. > **Receive stock shows the wrong warehouse** > > Check **Default receiving** on [Warehouses](https://www.adorabl.info/products/warehouses.md). Operators can still override the warehouse on each receipt. > **Stock on hand is empty** > > Confirm at least one **Stock** item exists and you have received quantity into an active warehouse. See [Stock on hand](https://www.adorabl.info/products/stock-on-hand.md). > **Carrier rates fail with an incomplete address** > > Label quotes need a full street, city, region, postal code, and country on the ship-from warehouse. When an order has an assigned warehouse with an incomplete address, adorabl names that warehouse and stops — it does not quote from a different location.
