# Purchasing overview

> Purchase orders, advance ship notifications, and receipts in adorabl.

**Purchasing** covers how you buy stock and services from suppliers — purchase orders that commit expected spend, advance ship notifications when suppliers ship, and receipts that post inventory into warehouses.

## What Purchasing covers

| Area | Primary screens | Guide |
| - | - | - |
| **Purchase orders & receipts** | Purchasing → Purchase Orders, Receipts | [Purchase orders & receipts](https://www.adorabl.info/purchasing/purchase-orders-and-receipts.md) |
| **Landed cost** | Purchasing → Landed cost; receipt **Landed costs** tab | [Landed cost](https://www.adorabl.info/purchasing/landed-cost.md) |
| **Supplier returns** | **Create return** on a posted receipt or bill; Commerce → Returns | [Supplier returns](https://www.adorabl.info/purchasing/supplier-returns.md) |

Purchasing setup lives under **Purchasing setup** (gear icon) in the app at `/setup/purchasing`. It covers [Landed cost components](https://www.adorabl.info/purchasing/setup/landed-cost-components.md).

## Typical workflow

**1. Onboard suppliers**

Create supplier master data on [Suppliers](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-payable/suppliers.md) before you issue POs.

**2. Issue a purchase order**

Commit quantities and expected cost. See [Purchase orders & receipts](https://www.adorabl.info/purchasing/purchase-orders-and-receipts.md).

**3. Receive goods**

Post a receipt at the receiving warehouse to update [Stock on hand](https://www.adorabl.info/products/stock-on-hand.md).

**4. Land the cost**

Allocate freight, duty, and handling to the receipt so inventory carries its true cost. See [Landed cost](https://www.adorabl.info/purchasing/landed-cost.md).

**5. Match to AP**

Enter the supplier bill on [Bills & adjustments](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-payable/bills-and-adjustments.md) and pay on [Outgoing payments](https://www.adorabl.info/accounts-payable/outgoing-payments.md).

## Example: Trail Ridge Outfitters

1. **PO-4421** to Apex Supply for daypacks → receipt at **Denver DC**
2. Stock on hand increases at the warehouse
3. **BILL-8842** matched to PO/receipt → posted under Accounts Payable
4. **APPMT-3318** pays Apex in full
