Landed cost components are the kinds of charges you add to inventory cost — freight, duty, handling, insurance, and anything else you pay to land goods. Each component carries an allocation basis that decides how its amount spreads across the lines on a receipt. Review the seeded list before the first landed cost allocation posts.

Open landed cost components

1

Navigate

  1. Open Settings → Purchasing.
  2. Click Landed cost components.

Seeded components

adorabl seeds a standard set for every organization: Seeded components keep their code, but you can rename them, change the basis, assign an accrual account, or deactivate them.

Allocation basis

Weight, volume, and manual bases need a factor on every line. Add unit weight and volume to your items so the factors default. See Items.

Add or edit a component

1

Open a row

Click a component to expand it, or click New component for a new one.
2

Set the fields

3

Save

Click the Save icon (Create component on a new row). Changes apply to new allocations; posted events keep the basis they were posted with.
Custom components can be deleted while unused. Seeded components are deactivated instead.
Components decide how a charge spreads. The accounts that receive the postings — Landed cost accrual and Landed cost true-up — are mapped once under System accounts.

Example: Trail Ridge Outfitters

Trail Ridge imports daypacks by sea and pays a customs broker separately from the forwarder. The controller:
  1. Leaves Freight on Weight so heavy daypacks carry more of the ocean freight than light rain covers.
  2. Adds a Brokerage component (brokerage) on a Quantity basis, because the broker charges per carton.
  3. Keeps Duty / Customs on Value, matching how duty is assessed.
The Purchasing setup hub shows Landed cost components as configured.
